JoAnn Zeise

Bio

JoAnn Zeise is a native of Pennsylvania but moved to South Carolina in her childhood. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in history and English in 2010. Two years later, she graduated with a master’s degree in public history, concentrating in Historic Preservation. Ms. Zeise worked at the University of South Carolina’s McKissick Museum from 2008 until July of 2012 when she accepted the position as Curator of Cultural History at the South Carolina State Museum. She is a Certified Interpretive Guide through the National Association for Interpretation. She has curated exhibitions on topics from military to fashion, prehistory to the space age and used a wide variety of material culture to tell those stories. She has also worked on a range of public programs and tours at the museum. Currently, she is a board member for the South Carolina Historical Association, the Palmetto Archives, Libraries, & Museums Council on Preservation, The Ingenious SC Education Task Force, the South Carolina Archeological Public Outreach Division and the South Carolina Board of Abandoned Cultural Property. Besides history, she loves being outdoors and reading.
