Popular exhibition will now be on view through January 4, 2026

The South Carolina State Museum is excited to announce the extension of the popular blockbuster exhibition, Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume, created by the Walt Disney Archives. Originally scheduled to close in October, guests will now be able to enjoy the critically acclaimed show through January 4, 2026.

“This exhibition has sparked the imagination of visitors of all ages,” said State Museum Executive Director, Amy Bartow-Melia. “We are delighted to extend its time at the museum so we can continue sharing these extraordinary costumes, and the incredible artistry behind them, with our guests.”

The exhibition showcases 70 original costumes from some beloved Disney films, illustrating how some iconic characters like Cinderella, Maleficent, and Jack Sparrow are brought to life through costume design. Visitors can explore the creative journey from concept to screen through detailed notes, designer quotes, and original sketches from some of Hollywood’s most respected artists, including Academy Award® winners Sandy Powell and Disney Legend Colleen Atwood.

Since opening in May, Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume has attracted many guests traveling from across the state and beyond to experience it.
